There is no worse feeling for a sound engineer or mobile DJ than hearing a loud pop, followed by the sudden silence of a blown subwoofer. The party stops, the client is stressed, and you are left staring at a blown cabinet wondering if you can fix it in time for the next set.
When a driver fails, you have a decision to make. You can trash a perfectly good PA Speakers box and buy new, or you can find a heavy-duty Replacement Subwoofer Driver that drops right in and brings the rig back to life.
At LESOUND ELECTRONICS, we don't just build the wooden boxes. We manufacture the actual Speaker Drivers that go inside them. If you are a distributor, an OEM brand, or a touring company, let's look at how to choose the right replacement and why our 18-inch lineup is built to take a beating.
Why the 18-Inch Woofer Still Rules the Stage
When you are building a PA system, the top-end tweeters get a lot of attention, but the low end is what actually moves the crowd. A quality 18" Subwoofer is the engine of your low frequency.
While a 12 Inch Subwoofer Driver is fantastic for tight spaces, small clubs, or mobile setups where truck space is limited, 18-inch drivers are built for large outdoor stages and heavy bass music. They have to handle extreme power and push a massive amount of air without distorting or overheating.
Inside the Build: What Makes a Woofer Last?
If you look at cheap subwoofers, the first thing to break is usually the basket. Stamped steel bends under the massive weight of the magnet, causing the voice coil to rub against the gap.
All our 18" models use a heavy-duty Die-cast ALU. Basket. This keeps the voice coil perfectly aligned and helps dissipate the intense heat generated during long gigs.
Here is a breakdown of our five 18" models, their exact specs, and how we supply them:

Picking the Right Configuration for Your Custom Speaker Drivers
When buyers reach out to us asking for advice, we usually start by asking about the cone material and the application.
If you are building traditional live sound cabinets for rock or vocals, the paper cones on the H-18BH451DM, H-18BH601ND, and H-18BH55DM provide a warm, natural sound that engineers love.
However, if you are pushing an electronic dance rig to the absolute limit, you want the CARBON CONE found in the H-18PD500C and H-18BHP500C. Carbon fiber is incredibly stiff. It resists cone breakup at high volumes, making it the ultimate choice for high-impact, heavy bass setups where durability is non-negotiable.
Weight vs. Power: The Neodymium Advantage
If you are loading a truck every night, the weight of your speakers matters. Most of our lineup uses a Ferrite Magnet, which is highly cost-effective and powerful.
But for touring companies, the H-18BH601ND is the secret weapon. It uses a NEO Magnet. It handles a massive 3000-6000W but weighs a fraction of the ferrite models. It is incredibly easy to lift and mount in the cabinet.
Emergency Replacements vs. Long-Term Custom Builds
We know how the audio business works. If a client's PA speakers blow out the night before a big event, you can't wait weeks for a factory run.
That is why the H-18BH451DM and H-18PD500C are currently sitting in our warehouse as ready to ship stock. You can order what you need for immediate repairs, and we also accept OEM requests to print your brand on them.
For our manufacturing partners who need specific, custom-built units to fit their unique cabinet designs, models like the H-18BH601ND, H-18BH55DM, and H-18BHP500C are open for OEM/ODM production. We can tweak the voice coils and spiders to match your specific acoustic goals.

The Questions Engineers Always Ask
Here are the technical points our clients ask about most often:
- What is an "IN/OUT Voice Coil"?
Notice our voice coils say GBF5" IN/OUT, etc. This means the coil has dual terminals, allowing you to easily daisy-chain or wire multiple drivers in parallel or series without running messy extra cables. - Why use a Double Spider?
When a subwoofer is pumping at 2000W+, the cone moves violently. A single spider can sag or tear. The Double Spider keeps the heavy voice coil perfectly centered in the magnet gap, preventing scratching and extending the life of the driver. - Will these fit my current cabinet?
Because they are all standard 18" drivers, the outer diameter is generally the same. However, the depth of the magnet (especially NEO vs Ferrite) and the cutout hole size can vary. We can provide exact dimensional drawings if you are swapping out a driver.
